Ackermans is the best place for car repairs or tuneups. I trust Bruce and his staff 100%. They are honest and they provide great service!

Thank you! During the drive up from San Diego to visit friends and family in Berkeley, my Subaru's AC system went down. I was in a panic to get a fix because I was scheduled to drive up to the Tahoe area the following with a "massive" drive down the Eastern Sierras thereafter. Without AC, it would be too hot for a family of four. I called Ackerman's after reading a few online reviews. On an otherwise hectic Monday morning, Bruce Ackerman was calm and thoughtful. I knew my Legacy Outback was in good hands. I appreciated his follow-up throughout this little automotive ordeal. Nothing is better than getting service beyond expectation. The air conditioning is great! I'll be keeping the Ackerman Berkeley vanity plates too!

Bruce and his staff are incredibly nice and professional. He only performs work on my vehicle that is necessary and makes great recommendations for future work. I wouldn't trust my vehicle with anyone else.

Ackerman's does excellent work. In particular, their preventive maintenance is very important, especially on a 33 year old car!

Excellent service, friendly; Bruce went out of his way to explain everything so that I understood what needed to be done

I am still concerned about your recommendation to replace the timing belt. I first spoke with Bruce who said it needed replacement. Upon further questioning he had me speak with the mechanic. If I understood correctly, I was first told the reco was based on mileage. I responded saying that it had been replaced at 105,000 so it should have at least 10,000, if not 15,000 miles (at 210,000) remaining. So I then asked if the recommendation to replace was basesd on visual inspection and was told yes, the belt has a visible crack. I do not feel completely comfortable with your recommendation.....Volvo's do not have a history of timing belts failing earlier than 105,000 intervals. This is my only concern and will appreciate again hearing from you on why you recommended replacement. It should not have been based on miles (unless you did not know it had been replaced at 105,000)....again this is my only concern. My prior encounter with your team (several weeks ago with Adam) was excellent. I want you to service the car my son has over the next two years while he is a student in town. However, I have a lingering concern as to the basis for your reco on a new timing belt. Thank you. Steve Later

Hi Steve, thanks for your feed back and question. You are welcome to come by the shop or have your son come by to see the cracks that we are talking about. Because of engine ruin if the belt fails I would rather err on the conservative side and replace it. That might explain the difference between your two shops. Stop by any time for a visual look. Thanks, Bruce.
