I had been a loyal customer of Ackerman for years. I trusted them with all my car needs and always took my Volvo there for maintenance and repairs. That trust is what brought me back before a recent trip—I wanted peace of mind, so I took my car in for a check-up. They told me the coolant reservoir needed replacing. As always, I trusted their judgment and authorized the repair. The next day, while driving across the Bay Bridge, my car suddenly stopped accelerating. I pulled over on the side of the freeway and had to call a tow truck to take me back to the shop. The coolant reservoir had exploded. There was clear evidence of damage from the failed repair. What was most disappointing wasn’t even the mechanical failure, it was the response I got. There was no apology, no sense of responsibility, and not even a hint of sympathy. My car, which was running smoothly just days before and had been well cared for, was now essentially totaled. I ended up selling my clean, well-maintained Volvo for just $200. On top of that, I had to rent a car and spent over $1,000 just to get through my trip. Ackerman, I was loyal to your shop for years. All I expected was for you to stand by your work when it mattered most. I’ve lost my trust in this place, and sadly, I cannot recommend it to others after this experience.
