Ackerman's participated in the Bay Area's Green Business program as the first certified Green auto repair facility in Berkeley.

In 1997 we signed the Green Business Pledge, which states:

"We believe a successful business is dependent on a healthy environment. We are actively working to show our environmental responsibility to the community."

As a green business, Ackerman's has agreed to:

  •  Comply with all environmental regulations

  • Conserve water

  • Prevent pollution

  • Minimize waste

  • Reduce energy consumption
Bay Area Green Business

One example of our committment to the Green Business Pledge is our new parts cleaning system. Instead of using chemicals, we now clean auto parts by soaking them in a bath of warm water with special microbes that actually eat the grease off the parts. We have also substituted reusable air-pressurized cans for the disposable aerosol cans we formerly used.

Berkeley Chamber of Commerce

The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce has been serving the community for over 100 years. In 1900 they opened their doors and fast became an integral part of the community. The Chamber you see today is indeed different than that of 1900. However, the dedication to assist Berkeley businesses so that the community will prosper and grow remains at the forefront of our mission. Ackerman's has been a member for ten years.

Berkeley High School Development Group

The Berkeley High School Development Group (BHSDG) is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that was founded in 1991 by a group of parent volunteers to ensure the quality and excellence of Berkeley High School as the primary fundraising organization for the school. Our mission is to support and strengthen the educational experience of all BHS students by raising and distributing funds to enhance academic and other projects.

Berkeley Public Education Foundation

Ackerman's is a "core supporter" of this nonprofit community agency whose motto is "Building a Community Committed to Our Schools." BPEF raises over $250,000 annually from hundreds of concerned individuals and businesses. These funds in turn are used for two purposes: to pay administrative costs for Berkeley School volunteers, and to make grants to teachers who have great project ideas but no funding.

EBBPA (Now Defunct)
The East Bay Business and Professional Alliance was an organization of gay, lesbian, and bisexual business owners and professionals who are dedicated to supporting and building community. Members of the Alliance seek to create a visible and active lesbian, gay, and bisexual community in the East Bay.
